Hungary 1956

September 6, 2016 by Peter

It has been almost 60 years since the Hungarian revolution in October of 1956, This was a momentous time in Hungarian history as well as for the many Hungarians who emigrated from Hungary and settled in various countries around the world.

Our family left Hungary after the second world war and established roots in Canada. We were fortunate to be able to help many Hungarians who arrived in Canada in 1956 and build a strong Hungarian Canadian community in Montreal and elsewhere in Canada.

When the events began to unfold, my cousin Marika who was 13 at that time started an album of newspaper clippings recording the events as they unfolded (Hungary 1956). This graphic history is mostly chronological and in no ways complete but provides an essence of how the events were perceived from a Canadian perspective.

Family Tree

February 16, 2013 by Peter

The Gosztonyi family tree spans back to 1269. As you can imagine it is quite large, even if we only look at the relations that make up this side of the family (Gyula Josef Gosztonyi married to Ersebet Pilch), the family tree is very broad and complex. Trying to show this on a chart gets messy very quickly.

Another important consideration is to ensure the privacy of living individuals by not showing the date and place of birth in the family tree.

I am in the process of figuring out how to do this so that we can easily see the extent of the family but also maintaining the privacy of each person. This is definitely a work in progress. I will be posting the family tree in parts as soon as I have time and figure the best way to do this, So check back to see my progress.

In Memoriam Eva Ilona de Gosztonyi (née Pinter)

January 20, 2013 by Peter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eva Ilona de Gosztonyi (née Pinter) in Montreal on October 27th 2012. Eva was one of the last remaining family members of her generation. She upheld the family tradition and presence with great pride and fortitude. We were fortunate to be able to record the family history and document it for future family reference.
To see the obituary, service or the family pictures go to the In Memoriam section

We will all miss her dearly.
